What is DJI Mini 3

DJI Mini 3 is a ultra-compact aerial drone with a takeoff weight of 249g made by DJI, announced on May 10, 2022 and released on May 17. It is a higher level model of previous DJI Mini 2 released in November 2020.

Product features

The feature of this model is the enhancement of the camera sensor. Effective pixels of the sensor have been increased from the previous DJI Mini 2 's 12MP to 48MP, video shooting supports 4K60FPS / H.265, and photos can be taken in 48MP RAW. The camera also supports vertical images (portraits). You can also shoot 1080p / 120fps slow motion video. As a result, the maximum video bit rate will reach 150 Mbps. The gimbal can also be turned upwards by 60 degrees (previously up to 20 degrees).
The flight time has increased by 3 minutes to 34 minutes, and with the large capacity "Plus" battery, it is possible to fly for 47 minutes.
Equipped with a new three-way obstacle detection system: front, rear, and bottom. The live view resolution of the controller has also been increased from 720p to 1080p. You can choose from two types of controllers: the same "RC-N1" as Mini 2 and the new "DJI RC" that has a display and does not require a smartphone. Performance such as the size and flight speed of the aircraft is almost the same as DJI Mmini 2.

Low-priced non-Pro version is now available

On December 9, 2022, a non-Pro version of DJI Mini 3 with limited functions was announced. Pre-orders will start on the same day, and will be shipped after December 14th. Differences from the Pro version are as follows.

Effective pixels of camera from 48MP to 12MP. Along with this, the maximum bit rate has also decreased from 150 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and the maximum frame rate of 4K video has also decreased from 60 fps to 30 fps.
The front and rear obstacle detection systems are omitted. 1g lighter and maximum flight time increased from 34 minutes to 38 minutes.
Video format H.265 is not supported and only H.264. In addition, "Asteroid" in Quick Shot mode, "Vertical" still image, and "Slow motion" movie shooting function have been deleted. The color profile "D-Cinelike" is no longer supported.
Video transmission system downgraded from OcuSync 3.0 to 2.0. Live view quality lowered from 1080p to 720p.

Compliance with Japanese laws and regulations

With the tightening of restrictions on Japanese aviation law (for takeoff weights of 100g or more) , which will be applied from June 20, 2022, the lighter Japanese version prepared for the conventional Mini series has disappeared. Unfortunately, the locations where you can fly without an application are severely restricted in Japan. And you will also need to register with "Drone Registration System" and use "Remote ID" feature. The remote ID function is not supported at the time of release. They say, "We plan to support the remote ID function in a future firmware update."
By the way, the aviation law restrictions will also apply to DJI Mini 2 and DJI Mavic Mini . Please be careful if you already have these.

Product composition

The product package includes the drone body, one battery, controller and accessories. You can choose from three types of controllers: new DJI RC, same DJI RC-N1 as the DJI Mini 2, and no controller. If you already own Mini 2, you can also use its controller with Mini 3. There is no "Fly More Combo" setting that includes accessories such as a carrying case, spare batteries, and charging dock e.t.c. If you need this, you will need to purchase a separate "Fly More Kit".
The price is USD759.00 for the model with RC-N1, USD909.00 for the model with DJI RC, and USD669.0 for the model without controller. DJI Mini 3 Pro Fly More Kit Plus (with Plus type batteries) will be available for USD249.00. Outside of Japan, DJI Mini 3 Pro Fly More kit, which includes normal type batteries, will also be available for USD189.00. Pre-launch information leak
