DJI NEO Drone Description and Specifications

What is DJI NEO

DJI Neo

DJI NEO Overview

The DJI NEO drone was released by DJI on September 5, 2024 at 9:00AM (10:00PM Japan time) and is a drone aimed at beginners/Vloggers, primarily for selfies. It competes with the HOVERAir X1 from Zero Zero Infinity Technology Co., Ltd. However, because the takeoff weight exceeds 100g, it is subject to regulations under the Aviation Act in Japan and there are only limited locations where it can be flown without application, so unfortunately it is not suitable for beginners/Vloggers. (Even if you remove the propeller guards (2.4gx2), the takeoff weight is 130.2g) In Japan, it is a half-baked product that only fits a limited number of users.
Let's hope that a Japan version will be released that has a takeoff weight of less than 100g, even if it means shortening the flight time, like the Mavic Mini .

Information leaked before release

(August 30, 2024) A Tether ad has been posted on the DJI website. It will be officially announced on September 5th at 09:00 (EDT).
(August 21, 2024) Detailed specifications have been leaked. 4K 30fps video camera with 1/2-inch sensor and single-axis gimbal. 22GB internal storage (SD cards not supported). Automatic takeoff and landing from the palm of your hand. QuickShot photo and video modes. Voice control. Pilot using just your smartphone or the yet-to-be-released RC-N3 controller. FPV flight in manual mode. Flight time of 18 minutes. And much more. However, no product announcement has been made yet. Like some of DJI's products, it may initially only be released in China.
(August 9, 2024) The release date has been leaked. It will likely be released on August 20th. Also, the beta firmware for DJI Goggles 3 (DJI) shows DJI Neo, which means it could be used as an FPV drone . Incidentally, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro action camera will also be released on August 28th.
(August 2, 2024) Photos of the packaging have been leaked. The photos show a weight of 135g, AI subject tracking, and 4K video recording capabilities. At this weight, we can expect a Japan version weighing less than 100g.
(July 30, 2024) It appears that a product named DJI Neo has been registered in the US FCC database. According to the database, the battery is 7.3V, 1435mAh (10.5Wh). It weighs about 169g. Based on the battery and weight, the flight time is expected to be about 15 minutes. According to a leaked Walmart product listing, the DJI Neo Fly More Combo, which includes an additional battery, charging hub, and shoulder bag, will cost USD329 (about JPY51,000).
Unfortunately, according to Japanese aviation laws, it's a bit too heavy to be called pocket-sized.
