GEEKOM Mini IT11 (Core i7-11390H) Review / Ultra-compact high-spec mini computer
GEEKOM/Jiteng is a manufacturer of ultra-compact desktop mini computers in Shenzhen, China and Taiwan. Product sales in Japan have just started in June 2023.This time (July 2023), we acquired the high cost performance flagship machine "Mini IT11" from GEEKOM, a newcomer to the Japanese market. Small but high performance, quiet with low speed rotating fan. Equipped with a USB4 port, the interface is abundant. Multi-display at 8K resolution is also possible, and one 2.5 inch HDD / SSD can be built in.
Currently, the mini PC market in Japan is dominated by MINISFORUM's products, but GEEKOM's products are by no means inferior in terms of quality and cost performance.

Introduction of GEEKOM Mini IT11
Since Windows 11 Pro edition is pre-installed, remote desktop connection is possible as it is, which is convenient for server use. It's also VESA mountable, so you can hang it behind your display.
GEEKOM has a lineup of other models equipped with Intel Core processors, including low price model "Mini IT8" equipped with the 8th generation Core i5-8279U (released in 2018) and top model "Mini IT12" equipped with 12th generation Core i7-1260P (released in 2022). However, in terms of cost performance, the "Mini IT11" introduced here is by far the best. If you want to choose a high-spec mini PC now, I think the “Mini IT11” is the only choice.
It comes in a sturdy, well-made box.

The size of the top surface is 117 x 112mm, which I think is particularly small among mini PCs.
The manufacturing quality of the housing and packing box is also high, and there is no flaw in comparison with MINISFORUM's products, which are popular in Japan recently.

A common feature of GEEKOM machines is that the power button is very light. A slight touch may cause it to start up unintentionally. Therefore, I think it is best to attach the power cable last when assembling, and remove it first when disassembling.

The bottom right corner is the Kensington lock mounting hole for anti-theft.
Since this PC supports Kensington lock, it is advantageous for introduction to companies.

The exhaust ports are lined up at the top. Airflow is taken in from the metal mesh surfaces on the left and right sides of the body and exhausted from the back. For ventilation, the area around the PC installation site should be wide open. Hot air blows out from the back. However, the top surface is only slightly warm.
The interfaces on the back are, from the left, DC port for power input, Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit LAN, 2xUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-A) port, USB 4 (20Gbps) (Type-C) port, HDMI(Type-A). The Type-C port also support video output, so you can connect a display using an HDMI or DisplayPort conversion cable.
The lid on the top has a notch on the back side, and you can remove the lid from here. However, the inside of the top surface is occupied by fans, and it is not possible to directly access the CPU. In order to access the CPU, it is necessary to further disassemble it by removing screws.
By connecting an external GPU (eGPU) to the USB4 port, you can comfortably enjoy heavy 3D games.

To access the interior, unscrew the four rubber feet. After loosening the screw sufficiently, pull the screw to remove the bottom cover.

The black connector that leads to the flat cable is a common 2.5" SATA interface.

The PC I got this time is a model with 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage.
The upper part is the M.2 SSD (1TB: Lexar NM620) of form factor 2280, and the lower part is the DDR4 memory (16GBx2: Lexar LD4AS016G). Both are easily replaceable.
Here is a picture of the AC adapter.
Input is 100~240V, 1.5A. And output is 19V, 3.42A, 64.98W.
The size of the AC adapter is about 105mm x 43mm x 28mm.
It is about the same as the AC adapter of a recent laptop.

How to install a hard disk/SSD
This PC can contain one 2.5 inch HDD or SSD (thin model with a thickness of 7 mm).
After loosening the four rubber foot screws sufficiently, pull the screws to remove the bottom cover.
For 2.5-inch HDD/SSD, use the holes on the back (the part indicated by the arrow in the photo) to fasten with screws. Remove the rubber bush indicated by the arrow.
Install the HDD/SSD as shown in this picture.
Insert the HDD/SSD from the right side of the photo by going through the metal fittings.
And fix it using the attached screws.
The metal fittings cannot be removed even if the screws attached to that are removed. Due to this structure, it is impossible to install HDD/SSD with a thickness exceeding 7mm.
The maximum expandable capacity according to the specifications is 2TB, but when I tested it, even a 4TB SSD ( Gigastone Game Pro (Amazon) ) could be used with Windows.

GEEKOM Mini IT11 BIOS
After pressing the power button, you can open the BIOS screen by repeatedly hitting the [Del] key before Windows starts.
The installed BIOS is AMI BIOS.
Scroll the screen to see the memory specifications.
The capacity is 32GB and the speed is 3200MTs.
There is no manufacturer name displayed.
You can check the storage specifications by opening the [Advanced] - [NVMe Configuration] screen.
It is Lexar's NM620 1TB.

GEEKOM Mini IT11 startup time
Booting Windows and launching applications is blazing fast thanks to the M.2 SSD and 32GB of memory. Windows boot time is about 19 seconds from pressing the power button to displaying the desktop screen. Startup time for Microsoft Excel/Word (2016) is less than 2 seconds from clicking the app icon to opening the template list. In addition, the free office suite " LibreOffice " can be started in less than 2 seconds, and Writer and Calc can be started in less than 2 seconds from that menu.However, boot time may slow down as you use your PC more.
GEEKOM Mini IT11 benchmark test results
Here, I tried running the representative benchmark programs, Geekbench, Cinebench, PCMark 10, and 3DMark (Time Spy).During testing, only one display with a resolution of WQHD (2560x1440) was connected using a Type-C to DisplayPort conversion cable, and no adjustments were made to the BIOS, drivers, or other parameters, and the settings were as they were when shipped from the factory. . For reference, the values of two other GEEKOM PC models, GPD Win Max2 (2023) (AMD Ryzen 7 7840U), Core i7-6700 (2015) + RTX3060 (12GB Desktop), Core i7-2600 (2011) + GTX1060 are also listed. s
In terms of CPU performance and processing performance for office programs, this PC has high-end class performance among general office computers. On the other hand, as a 3D gaming PC, it has the minimum performance for the time being.

GPU Benchmark result was 11008.
In order to enjoy 3D graphics games, it can be said that it has the minimum performance for the time being. If you want to enjoy heavy 3D games, I recommend connecting an external GPU (eGPU) via the USB4 (Thunderbolt3) port.

, a 3DCG rendering test using only CPU provided by Maxon.
This bench allows you to look at purely CPU performance.
The performance per CPU core is top class, but since this CPU has 4 cores, its multi-core performance is inferior compared to recent PCs. However, the MP Ratio is close to the number of cores, so it seems that multiple processes are running efficiently.

Since the graphics test is included, the result is stricter than Geekbench, Cinebench. However, except for rendering, it has high performance across the board. It also works well enough for video editing.

(Time Spy) to see the performance as a gaming PC.
On this bench, you can see the rendering performance of 3D graphics, mainly assuming recent heavyweight games.
As a combination of 11th generation Core i7 plus Iris Xe, I received a "Great" judgment.
However, at WQHD (2560x1440) resolution, the heavyweight Time Spy demo didn't even hit 10FPS.
The temperature is kept at exactly 60 degrees, so thermal throttling may be working.
