このエンジンは、液体酸素を酸化剤、RP-1(ケロシン)を燃料とする。 第一段(S-IC)に搭載された5台のエンジンは、合計で7,500,000ポンドの推力を生成する。 中央の1台は固定されているが、他の4台はジンバルに搭載され、X軸、Z軸まわりにそれぞれ6度方向を変えられる。 SA-504以降、推力は1,522,000lb(690.36ton)に増強された。
